The Right Braces For You

The Components

 

All types of braces consist of brackets and wires. The brackets are placed on your teeth with a special adhesive and then a member of the Sudbury Orthodontics team runs an archwire through them. This wire guides your teeth into position. Since we use self-ligating braces, you don’t actually need elastics. However, a lot of our patients like to add them anyway to give their braces some fun color.

Before you start imagining unwieldy hunks of metal, you should know today’s braces are nothing like they used to be. At Sudbury Orthodontics, we use braces that are small, esthetic and efficient. Braces Procedure

Consultation

You’ll stop by our Sudbury Orthodontic office for your free consultation and you’ll get to meet the awesome Sudbury Orthodontics family. We’ll examine your mouth, snap a few photos and take digital x-rays. Dr. D'Aloisio will determine your diagnosis and the best course of treatment. He’ll sit down with you and your parents, unless you’re a grown-up, of course, and chat about your treatment goals and options. He’ll also answer any questions so you can make an informed decision.

Get Your Braces Put On

Woohoo! Time to kick-off your teeth-straightening journey. This part is pain-free and there are no needles involved. Dr. D'Aloisio will simply attach the brackets to your teeth with special glue. A team member will place the archwires and if you want to wear colored elastics, you can choose your favorite shades. The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour. Once it’s complete, we’ll explain how to care for your new braces and you’ll be on your way.

Adjustments

Every four to eight weeks, you’ll swing by for an appointment. Dr. D'Aloisio and his team will check on your progress and make adjustments, bringing you one step closer to your fresh, new smile. Every single time you visit, Dr. D'Alosio will meet with you, answer your questions and keep you updated so that you’re confident about your treatment. For kids and teens, we make sure their parents or guardians know exactly what’s going on too.

Get Your Braces Taken Off

You’ll get a high-five for making it this far. Then, we’ll get down to business. Using special tools, Dr. D'Alosio will take off your brackets and wires, which also doesn’t hurt. Once your teeth are polished, you’ll get to admire your beautiful new smile.

Metal Braces

With smaller, more streamlined brackets and high-tech wires, self-ligating metal braces, which are made from stainless steel, are a great choice for kids, teens and adults. Some patients prefer metal braces and while elastics aren’t necessary, a lot of people like to add them for a bit of color.

Gold Braces

With smaller, more streamlined brackets and high-tech wires, self-ligating gold braces, which are made from stainless steel but are coated with gold. They are a great choice for kids, teens and adults. Some patients prefer gold braces due to cosmetic preferences.

Ceramic Braces

Our clear self-ligating braces are made from a translucent ceramic material that blends right into the teeth so they’re a lot less noticeable than their metal counterparts. Their cosmetic appeal makes them popular with teens and adults. We’ll even put them on your top teeth at no additional cost.
